Above & Beyond Child Care and Education Center
How do you handle food allergies or restrictions?
Our chef works with our families to provide substitutes when possible. If we are not able to provide a comparable substitute, we will ask the family to provide one. All possible and confirmed allergies, sensitivities, and restrictions are posted in the kitchen and the child’s classroom to notify staff. We do not restrict any foods from entering the building.
What is included in your tuition?
Tuition includes up to 10 hours of care per day within our hours of 6:30am-6:00pm. There is an additional charge for children staying longer than 10 hours per day. Above & Beyond provides diapers, wipes, sunscreen, lotion, cot sheets, toothpaste & toothbrush for the children in our center. Families that would like cream applied after diapering are responsible for providing this. If you would like cream applied to your child after diapering, it must be provided to the teacher. We also have a full-time chef on staff who prepares breakfast, lunch and two snacks each day.
What are your hours of operation and when are you closed?
We are open Monday through Friday 6:30am-6:00 pm. Tuition includes up to 10 hours of care each day for your child. We are closed New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Martin Luther King Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
Above & Beyond has 4 days - including MLK Day - in which we can be closed to be used to our discretion. This could be for snow days, staff development days, or inclement weather.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you decide what to include on the menu?
Our Chef plans meals that are interesting and nutritious. We have an open kitchen the children often help in. Because we have a small residential style kitchen we face limitations in the foods we can offer. However, our central focus is on creating a comfortable environment where children learn to have a healthy relationship with food and eating. We feature the children’s favorite recipes from home and food holidays. Our children serve themselves and the teachers sit with them during family style dining.
I see Above & Beyond follows the Reggio Emilia inspired approach. What does that mean?
Our environment reflects our values of supporting and enhancing every child’s natural desire to learn and grow in a comfortable, safe environment. Through the Reggio Emilia approach, teachers are seen as partners in the children’s learning and provide materials and experiences to build on the child’s interests. Teachers will guide and support children’s natural instincts to explore and gain knowledge inside and outside of the classroom. Reggio’s first focus is on developing the child’s social-emotional skills to provide a strong foundation for current developmentally appropriate- as well as future- learning.
