Above & Beyond Child Care and Education Center

Our two year old room is designed to really get the children ready to explore the independence they so desperately crave at this stage. Beginning around two children move from the toddler aged room down the hall to our Wonderers Classroom. The low counters, sinks, bathroom equipment, and furniture represent our culture of respect for young children's capabilities.

Following a morning breakfast the children are encouraged to explore their curiosities through thoughtful arrangements of open ended materials. Their interests are evident in every material as the teachers plan on a weekly basis how to best support and educate the children though their interests. After putting their materials away and cleaning up independently it's time to head outside to explore our natural playground. While waiting for lunch a group activity of songs, turn taking and stories brings the group together. The last half of the day includes nap, afternoon snacks and more outdoor exploration on one of our two playgrounds.

This classroom builds on the skills the toddler aged children begin exploring by offering a more developmentally appropriate program with more challenges. As their language and motor skills grow they become increasingly able to actively participate in their learning experience. Typical social emotional skills children develop in this classroom include: dressing and undressing, serving their own food at family style meals, being more active in the toilet learning process, and learning social conventions like turn taking.
